GLP Phys. Ed.

Goals, Requirements & Procedures

Goals -

The goals of our program are as follows:

1. To learn of the importance of regular exercise to good health and happiness.

2. To begin the development of fundamental physical skills which will provide the basis for more complex skills in later years.

3. To learn to play together fairly and safely.

4. To have fun!

Requirements -Children must wear sneakers that provide appropriate support for vigorous activity. Velcro sneakers are best. *No boots, crocs, sandals or dress shoes are allowed for safety reasons.

Procedures -

Generally, our class periods are divided into three segments: a warm-up activity, a skill development activity, and a game. Our warm up consists of 20+ different variations of exercies that the kids do within each week.  Sometimes we lead and sometimes we empower the children to selcet the exercises. In general, the kids do two sets of two different exercises at their squad spot followed by a locomotor activity across the gym, performing variations of walking, hopping, galloping, skipping, marching, animal movements, backpedalling, side shuffling, jogging, running, and frankenstein kicks.  It is also during the warm-up time that the children learn about physical fitness, what it is, and of its importance. The skill development segment is where certain skills and knowlege are taught about a particular activity. The children then practice those skills. The third segment, a childrens' game, is just that....a simple game through which the children have fun, get more vigorous exercise and learn to play together fairly and safely.

Some ideas for ways to stay healthy at home!

Mr. Bernardone

Thank you for visiting my webpage!  I have been teaching Physical Education and/or Health Education in Eden 24 years.  Twelve were spent in the Jr./Sr. High School. I am very excited to be teaching Physical Education at the GLP and feed off the energy that the students bring to the gym!

There are many ways I stay busy once the school day has completed.  I currently coach Varsity Bowling. I am assisting with my sons 16U travel baseball team and help with my daughters various sport teams.  I am also currently working on completing my second Masters degree in Educational Leadership at Niagara University.  I enjoy watching and participating in almost any sport as well as trying to maintain a well rounded exercise program.  My favorite teams are the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, and New York Yankees.

My wife is an elementary education teacher in another district  and we have had the great fortune of having 2 wonderful children.  My son is 15 and will be entering 10th grade this fall, and my daughter is 13 and just started 8th grade.

I strive to make my class an environment that will allow the students to show growth socially, emotionally, and obviously physically through out the whole year.

Feel free to contact me via email if you have any questions.  jbernardone@edencsd.org

MR Kubera

My name is Coach Kubera, this is my seventeenth year teaching P.E. and my first here in Eden. I'm teaching Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 9-12th grade P.E. I grew up in the village of Hamburg, I have one older brother and two younger sisters. My wife and I live in Orchard Park with our son (6) daughter (3) and dog Murphy (4 months).

I grew up loving sports, reading, drawing, and watching movies. Basketball became my favorite sport and I played on the basketball team at Ithaca College. I received my degree in Physical Education and got my first job in New York City. I lived and worked there for nine years, coaching volleyball, basketball, and softball.

After New York City, my wife and I moved to Mount Kisco, NY where I taught at another school for three years, but we missed Western New York. We moved back to the area and I taught in the cities of Lackawanna and Buffalo for a few years before finding my home here in Eden.

When I'm not at work I like to take my kids to the playground, play basketball, and perfect my bbq skills. The rest of my family lives in the area, so we love getting together as much as we can, especially for Bills Games!!!

Thanks for visiting my page and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Miss Francisco

Welcome, and thanks for visiting the GLP PE website! This is my 15th year of teaching PE here at the GLP.

I grew up in Penn Yan, NY in the Finger Lakes region (on Keuka Lake to be exact). I was always active in sports while growing up. I played soccer, basketball, softball, and was a member of our Powerlifting Club. Upon graduating HS in 2002, I attended SUNY Brockport where I earned my Bachelors Degree in K-12 PE in 2006. I spent my first three years teaching in Fairport, NY.

Why did I choose to be a PE Teacher? First of all, my mom taught 2nd grade in Penn Yan, and I always enjoyed helping her out in the classroom. I also really liked PE all through my school years, and thought that teaching kids sports and physical skills would be a perfect match. Sure enough it is!!

While not at school teaching, I spend a lot of time outdoors doing water sports, biking & running, hiking, lifting at the gym, traveling, or spending time with my family.

I enjoy visiting my parents and brother who live in Penn Yan, and especially enjoy it in the summer months.  Growing up and continuing to be on the lake has offered me many great opportunities like boating, water skiing, swimming, kiteboarding, and paddle boarding!

I work very hard each day to give your child(ren) the best physical and emotional experience in the numerous activities I teach them. I strive towards children learning something new, achieving a new goal, or doing something they have never done before!

Thank you for visiting, and if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me!
