Prevention West Slope

Mission Statement:

To provide youth and families in El Dorado County with comprehensive, evidence based and culturally competent drug and alcohol prevention activities through leadership, education, resources and the promotion of healthy lifestyles to create a future of wellness.

Our Beliefs:

• We believe in empowering youth to create positive changes in their communities.

• We believe in supporting the power of community coalitions to establish and implement effective prevention programs to serve their unique needs.

• We believe that community and school based prevention programs increase resilience and improve outcomes for our youth.

Prevention of Substance Use is accomplished in El Dorado County thru a number of different strategies, Peer Council, Friday Night Live/Club Live, PAL, community partnering and education.

Peer Council - The Peer Council in El Dorado County is a collaboration between the Probation Department and Health and Human Services Agency to divert youth from further delinquent behavior by promoting victim awareness, accountability and restorative justice to their communities.

The concept for this early intervention program is to empower youth to positively change their lives by addressing poor choices and anti-social behaviors in a collaborative, peer-supported environment where teaching and accountability take place to facilitate change.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in being a volunteer with the Peer Council please have them visit this site and complete the "Signup" and "Apply" tabs.
