The first unit introduces language to introduce yourself and talk about life at school by using present tense constructions. ‘Daily life’ unit allows students to communicate their routines and habits and build on their capacity to talk about their likes and dislikes, giving reasons and explanations to support their preferences. The following units introduce more advanced grammar and verb tenses such as simple and near future tenses, conditional tenses and past tense to ask people out on social outings and talk about their future ambitions and aspirations. Authentic connections with a high school in La Réunion provides students with the chance to communicate with French speaking counterparts.
Students in this course do not need to have previous experience in Italian language. This course consists of four units that sequentially build students’ knowledge of Italian language and culture. Students in the first year of this course will develop their vocabulary and grammar in an authentic setting by communicating with Italian students from a high school in Florence. ‘La Vita Scolastica’ will encourage students to discuss their opinions and routines in the present tense in a school environment. ‘La Vita Quotidiana’ will explore daily routines of Italians and Australians. In the second year of study, students will explore the topic of ‘Soccializiamoci’. This topic looks at the students own interests and hobbies, learning to talk about what they enjoy doing in their free time and exploring what others do in other countries and cultures. Students will finish the course with ‘Piani Futuri’ which explores the hopes and desires of students future plans and how to express these in Italian. Students will use a mix of group activities and individual projects for learning.
