Things you will need

• Paper

• Pencil

• Compass (these are on most smartphones)

• Examples of Maps (Link Below but any maps will do)

Description of the Activity

• Create a treasure map with your child.

• Have them hide a “special treasure” (not your keys!!!) and then draw a map to help you find it.

• How will you know where to go?

• How can we show people that they’re in the right place?

• How will you know when you get there?

• Talk to them about using landmarks and obvious things as ways to show you’re on the right track

• How can we tell the distance between things on the map? Using a scale of some sort might be useful.

• What makes a good map?

• Do all maps look alike?

• Do you know what other maps look like?
