Description of the Activity
Go for a walk with your child around where you live.
Have your child choose two objects that take their interest. These objects will become the main characters in their story. (the objects could be a tree, rock, a leaf, a park bench)
For the objects that you choose: Give it a name, describe its character – what does it like doing, what are its favourite things, what it doesn’t like doing, is the object funny or cranky, etc. List 5 things characteristics for each object.
Imagine and re-tell a conversation between your two characters. Choose one of the following conversation prompts to get you started, or make up your own:
1. How – how did you find me?”
2. Excuse me. Excuse me! Yes, you. You’re sitting in my seat.
3. What have you done now?
4. I’m your biggest fan!
5. Don’t move
As the child tells the story an adult (or another person) could write it down (or record it on a device). When back inside the child could write, type or draw the story of the conversation.
Questions to talk about with your child
If your child needs some prompts consider asking what their characters might be able to see, what they might hear; how do they feel, etc
