November is one of my favorite months of the year. Even as the weather keeps changing and the leaves fall with brilliant colors of orange, red and yellow to decorate our school grounds, our academic work at EES is in full swing. We continue to work hard for our students as we navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, acknowledging that many students are experiencing significant gaps resulting from interrupted instruction, and at the same time building on their immense strengths and abilities. Our focus over the next few months is creating routines for the students. This is where you can also come into play. Attendance and arriving to school on time are crucial to a child’s success.
Parent/Guardian/Teacher conferences are coming up very soon. It is very important that you take part in this conversation with your child’s teacher. The work we do together is a partnership. When your child sees us as a team, we can do great things.
Communication is essential and we strive to connect to our students, parents and families, and community each and every day. We encourage you to communicate as often as possible with your child's/children’s teacher(s). We also encourage you to visit our website and follow our social pages including Facebook and Instagram for announcements, information and celebrations.
Warm Regards,
Mrs. Ey

This year, EES has adopted a new literacy program from Houghton Mifflin called Into Reading. Into Reading is based on the Workshop Model, which begins with whole-group, grade-level instruction, and then moves into small-group instruction based on students’ strengths and needs. This allows us to personalize learning for students, giving them the exact intervention or enrichment they need to grow.
This is especially important as we address interruptions in learning that happened as a result of COVID-19-related school closures. It means we can meet students where they are, fill any gaps they might have in their literacy skills, and build on their strengths to provide high-interest, challenging instruction. It means more individualized attention for every child.
Check out EES students working in guided reading groups, strategy groups, and learning centers!
How can you support Into Reading at Home? Give your EES student interesting books, make time for reading, and have fun talking about books. Check out the webpage of our school librarian, Mrs. Mitchell, for ideas! Or visit Ellenville Public Library. Happy reading!
Did you know that EES school counselors visit all K - 6 classrooms to offer lessons in social-emotional learning? These are the skills all students need to feel calm and focused at school, complete assigned work, stay organized, listen actively, manage conflicts peacefully, and work well in a group. Students are enjoying these lessons and applying them in their schoolwork every day.
Our social-emotional theme for November is self-awareness, which is all about naming and understanding our emotions and strengths.
Check out our Video of the Month!
Do you or your EES student need to talk to one of our counselors or social workers? Looking for counseling or social-emotional resources? Check out the ECS School Counseling Page.

And for those of you who love a good card game:
School starts at 8:50AM. There is no outside supervision before 8:45AM. Students SHOULD NOT come earlier unless they are eating breakfast.
Please make sure you always have your ID available when coming to the school. You will need it for picking up your child and for entering the building.
Dismissal time can be very hectic. All dismissal changes must be done before 2:00PM.
Please see COVID-19 Important Reminders for up-to-date information on EES COVID protocols.
The Elementary School has an email address that all correspondence to the office can be emailed to: esoffice@ecs.k12.ny.us
This email can be used for dismissal changes, absent notes, updating information, etc.
Any changes in phone number, address, or people allowed to pick up your child? Please contact the office, so your child’s emergency form can be updated. No student will be allowed to go home with anyone not listed on the emergency form.
As the weather begins to get colder please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. We will continue to go outside for recess, even when it is cold outside.
