Practical exam taken in class with a one hour time limit.
Annual solar potential map of the U.S., requiring each state to be labeled and a title, legend, north arrow, scale bar, effective color ramp, and citation.
Students chose topic and data sets to work with, with my map focuses on manatee mortality rates and marinas in Florida.
Requirements included using at least two layers, a locator map, title, legend, north arrow, scale bar, and effective symbology.
Map of Lane County in Oregon, looking at cities by elevation. This map served as a practice for the practical exam, requiring students to follow specific steps, such as displaying cities by elevation with graduated color symbology at equal interval, changing the projection, and adding a 50 mile scale bar.
Data was gathered from students during tree survey days, requiring measurement of trees' diameter, mapping location with a GPS, and noting the species and health status. Students chose a map to create based on any of the tree data present and I focused trees in poor health.
Requirements included successfully converting GPS data, doing an attribute selection and displaying it successfully, and correcting any errors (e.g., multipath error).
Map focusing on areas of Hawaii that are best target area for management, considering rare and endangered plant species.
Requirements included downloaded and extracting shapefiles, projecting the feature class and map, creating a feature class, labeling, and inserting an image and citations.
