Salter-Harris Classification

The Salter-Harris Classification System is used to define injury severity to the growth plate, also known as the physis or epiphyseal disk. The higher the number, the worse the injury. The "metaphysis" is the narrow part of the bone as illustrated by the "face" area, located above the darkened growth plate. The epiphysis is the rounded ends of the bone. The physis, or growth plate, is part of the metaphysis.
