Think of Google Drive as a space just to store your AIF challenge documents and videos. When you need to complete a challenge you can go to your Google Drive, open the file and start working straight away. No need to download it to your computer, just start answering your challenge questions.
Once you've had enough of a particular challenge, or you've finished, the Google Doc (imagine the Google version of a Microsoft Word document) automatically saves. You can then download that document to your computer or upload it straight from your Google Drive into your challenge file submission, amongst other things.
You can also upload your videos for your challenges to your Google Drive, rather than keeping them on your computer. This is easily done when you film on a mobile phone by using the information below.
You should access Google Drive on a laptop or desktop computer; however, it is possible to use it on your mobile device via the Google Drive app. To access your student account, you will need to have Google Chrome installed, and have Google as your default search engine (if you wish to use another search engine you will need to go to google.com to access the G Suite apps). This will allow you to access your student Google Drive plus other Google Suite apps such as Google Docs and Google Sheets.
After opening a new 'tab' or 'window' in Google Chrome, you will see a circular icon up in the top right corner of the window. If you already have a personal account, this icon may have an image in it. Otherwise, you will see a letter representing your first initial. So, if your name were Craig, you would see a coloured circle with a 'C' in the center. If you are logged into your personal Google account, you must log out of that account and then log back in using your student email and password.
Now when you open a new 'tab' or 'window' the icon may appear to be a different colour and you can access any of the available G Suite apps up the top right corner of the screen by clicking on the icon that has 9 dots in the shape of a square.
Accessing Google Drive from your mobile phone can be very useful if you need to upload a video you have recorded for a practical component of an assessment. If you don't have it installed already on your mobile phone, you will need to download the Google Drive app from the Apple Store or Google Play. Once installed, you can sign in using your student email address and password.
Due to a large range of mobile devices, it is recommended that you search for specific instructions on YouTube on how to use Google Drive on your particular device.
