Assessment is an important part of attaining a certificate or qualification. We want you to think of the tasks and questions within an assessment as opportunities for proving your knowledge and skills. We aim to make each assessment as user-friendly and industry-relevant as possible while ensuring we satisfy the requirements of the units of competency.
If you are reading this Guide, you are enrolled to complete the qualification SIS40221 Certificate IV in Fitness which will enable you to register as a Personal Trainer with registering bodies – AUSActive or Physical Activity Australia. The Certificate IV in Fitness is a nationally recognised training course. All registered training providers across Australia will automatically recognise the qualification issued by the AIF through the process of national recognition. Successful completion of the Fitness Coach course will result in attaining the Certificate IV in Fitness Qualification. You will have received a list of the units of competency that comprise the Certificate III in Fitness with your Confirmation of Enrolment.
Let's take a look at the assessment tasks for the Fitness Coach course.
The tasks that you will complete include:
Practical role play/simulations
Case studies
Written and practical tasks
Short answer questions (SAQs)
Portfolio projects
Online quizzes.
Some assessment tasks will require:
Collaboration with other people or fellow students to complete evaluations and feedback
Sourcing volunteers to role play clients for activities such as health screening, fitness assessments, exercise programs and dietary habit consultations
Using specific equipment and technology for exercise programs, and health and fitness assessments
Filming sessions and exercises, or taking photos of fitness assessments and exercise environments for assessment evidence
There are eight (8) portfolio style assessments to complete, one in each of the 8 modules, which must be submitted by their respective due dates (as shown on your course outline). Each of these assessments are completed using Google Docs, and are accessed and submitted via the IGNITE platform as a PDF.
At the top of each assessment is a student declaration section which ensures that the work submitted is your own; any form of plagiarism or deception is not acceptable. If an Assessor has suspicions that your work is not original, you may face an academic integrity enquiry. Your assessment will not be graded by an Assessor if this section has not been completed and signed.
You will also be required to complete knowledge checks (online quizzes) in most modules.
Assessments are graded as either Satisfactory or Not Yet Satisfactory. You will also receive feedback for your assessments and be provided with the opportunity to be re-assessed should your first attempt be graded Not Yet Satisfactory. Your Assessor will record the results for all your assessments in the feedback section on IGNITE.
Knowledge check questions will generally be multiple choice, but may also require you to match words with descriptions and type in specific words to complete sentences. Knowledge checks are self-grading and must be graded as 100% (all questions answered correctly) in order to be deemed complete. You will have unlimited attempts to achieve this.
More detailed information is contained within the course content and each individual assessment.
