It’s up to You!

How it all Started....

This website was an idea that we, the Grade 4 students of Escuela Campo Alegre, came up with during the action phase of our second inquiry unit. The main idea of this unit was, ‘rights and responsibilities are involved in sharing finite resources’. While exploring the topics in this unit, we saw how the people of this world are damaging the earth and depleting its resources. Our school also teaches us to be responsible global citizens, and so we wanted to take action by spreading awareness about this to as many people as we can. Another reason that motivated us to create this website was a video we watched about an island that was covered in different pieces of plastic. These materials were brought in by the ocean from different parts of the world. Some of the pieces of plastic were very strange like a mannequin head, toothbrushes, and thousands and thousands of plastic lids and straws. The sea birds would mistake these plastic items for food and eat it which later killed them. When the stomach of the dead birds was cut open, all they found inside were big and small plastic lids and other materials. This was really shocking for us and we collectively decided that we have to do something about our future and the future of this earth. We would like to stand with and show our support in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Goal #14 Life Below Water and Goal #15 Life on Land.
