General Course Information

Students will begin mastery of the NEW Louisiana Science Standards, which are an adaptation of the Next Generation Science Standards. This new curriculum is designed to merge the principles of science and engineering with a greater focus on students demonstrating their knowledge by creating models and testing a variety of concepts.

COURSE SCHEDULE

Listed below are the units to be covered throughout the year. The order is subject to change at the discretion of the teacher to meet student mastery. Each unit will have at least 2 quizzes and 1 end of unit assessment, either a test or performance task. The goal for each assessment is 85% or MASTERY.

ASSIGNMENTS

Face-to-Face Instructional Model

Headings should include: first and last name, teacher name (KING), block, date (DAY, MONTH, and YEAR) on every assignment you turn in AND handouts you receive. This should be in the upper left-hand corner of all pages of an assignment. Any multiple-page assignment must be labeled with heading and stapled before it is turned in. Unclaimed work will not be graded. This applies to digital and virtual assignments as well, ALL ASSIGNMENTS must be turned into the proper location at the designated time.

You turn in your work online in Google Classroom. Depending on the type of assignment and attachments, you’ll see Turn in or Mark as Done. If you need to edit work that you turned in, you can unsubmit the assignment before the due date, make your changes, and resubmit. However, any assignment turned in or marked done after the due date will be recorded with any appropriate late work penalties.

Virtual & Hybrid Instructional Model

You turn in your work online in Google Classroom. Depending on the type of assignment and attachments, you’ll see Turn in or Mark as Done. Face-to-Face Instructional Model Policy

Homework is assigned once a week or once every two weeks and must be turned in ON TIME. If a student does not turn in an assignment it will be recorded as a zero.

By request of the student as a responsibility of the student, Will be accepted up to TWO (2) weeks from the original due date for a letter grade lower. AFTER THAT, work will be accepted for HALF (50%) of the value of the assignment! Extended absences will be handled on a case by case basis. If you are absent, YOU are responsible for getting missed assignments from the teacher or a classmate. Any test or quiz missed by an excused absence will be made up within two days of the student returning to school. Any test missed by an unexcused absence will be made up the next class period the student is present in class. Failure to makeup a test or quiz will result in a zero. Homework is due upon return to class immediately after the missed day. Alternate labs will be provided for missed lab days. If work is not made up, it will be recorded as a zero.

Virtual and Hybrid Instructional Model Policy

All coursework and/or assignments are due daily by the end of class unless otherwise specified. In the event that you cannot complete and submit an assignment on time, will fill out the Late Work Form. This Google Form can be found on Google Classroom. Please know that filling out this application for an assignment extension DOES NOT guarantee you will receive extra time for an assignment. This application MUST BE COMPLETED by 3pm on the date the assignment is originally due.

Late work and make up work will not be accepted unless this application is filled out AND approved by the teacher.

POLICIES & PROCEDURES

ALL STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO FOLLOW THE POLICIES OF THIS CLASSROOM, MMAMS, and EBRPSS.

At MMAM students are expected to be in class every day and on time. It is solely the STUDENT’S responsibility to retrieve and make up missed work.

HOMEWORK, MAKE-UP WORK, & LATE WORK POLICY

In the event that you cannot complete and submit an assignment on time, you MUST COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENT AND MARK IT ON THE LATE WORK FORM. This Google Form can be found on Google Classroom. Please know that filling out this form for an assignment DOES NOT grant you extra time for an assignment. This form must be filled out if you do not want to receive a ZERO for the assignment.

Late work and make up work will not be graded unless this form is filled out.

GRADES & GRADING SCALE

Students must maintain a GPA of 2.5 to retain enrollment at MMAMS. Each unit will end with a unit test or performance task. Students will receive a daily participation grade. Other assignments for a grade may include labs, lab reports, consensus models, exit tickets, etc. Parents are encouraged to log on to the online grade-book WEEKLY to stay up to date on student performance. Detailed Grade Reports will be given at the time of 4 ½-week progress reports and 9-week report cards.

RULES, CONSEQUENCES, & DISCIPLINE PLAN

STUDENTS have the right to LEARN in an orderly environment. TEACHERS have the right to TEACH in an orderly environment. Any student who violates those rights will face the consequences listed below. The teacher has the right to skip steps to protect the safety and well-being of students who choose to respect expectations of the classroom.

LAB SAFETY

SAFETY FIRST! NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO PERFORM EXPERIMENTS WITHOUT A SIGNED SAFETY CONTRACT IN INK BY BOTH THE STUDENT AND THE PARENT. CONTRACTS WILL BE KEPT ON FILE. By signing the contract, the student agrees to obey the rules of the laboratory and experiment safely. Goggles and other protective equipment will be provided by the school. Any student who chooses to violate the rules of the classroom/laboratory, will be removed from the exercise and given an alternative assignment after receiving disciplinary action.

HALL PASSES & BATHROOM POLICY

Face-to-Face Instructional Model

Your planner is your hall pass and must be with you every day. Students should use the time before school, between classes, lunch, and after school to use the bathroom or take care of other matters (EXCEPTION: Students with a signed letter from their physician).

CELL PHONES & OTHER STUDENT OWNED ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Face-to-Face Instructional Model

Cell phones, smart watches, tablets, and any other student owned electronic devices are to be turned off in students' lockers at all times. No longer may electronic devices be in pockets of backpacks. The teacher will follow the policy set by MMAMS and EBRPSS for confiscation if a student violates these policies.

Virtual & Hybrid Instructional Model

Students are encouraged to use MMAM issues Chromebook devices for instruction with EBRPSS login. Cell phones, smart watches, tablets, and any other student owned electronic devices are to be out of sight and not in use by the student during instructional time. The teacher will follow the policy set by MMAMS and the student will receive disciplinary action

EBRPSS 1:1 TECHNOLOGY HANDBOOK RULES & REGULATIONS

All student activity/usage of EBRPSS accounts and devices including Chromebooks will be monitored by teachers, MMAM, and EBRPSS using GoGuardian in traditional face-to-face instruction models, hybrid instructional models, and virtual instructional models. All students are expected to follow EBRPSS 1:1 Technology Handbook rules and regulations at all times. Any violations of these rules and regulations including the use of unauthorized websites/applications will be subject to the discipline plan outlined above.
