The concept of a PAES Lab was introduced in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System in March 2020 when the first site opened at Arlington Academy. Glen Oaks Magnet High School became one of the next high schools to open up a program. PAES stands for Practical Assessment Exploration System. Eligible students work in the lab to develop marketable skills for post-secondary employment; while there they simulate the world of work by clocking in and out and reporting their activities and results. Students get to explore career skills in five areas: business/marketing, computer technology, construction/industrial, consumer/service, and processing/production.
