EBR Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) is a regional training provider for high school students in high demand, high paying jobs in the Capital Region. CTEC provides rigorous, project-based instruction, Industry Based Credentials (IBC), and dual enrollment opportunities that can be used towards an Associate Degree while in high school.

The Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) provides students with unique opportunities to explore specialized career pathways not available at their home schools. CTEC equips students with the skills and experiences needed for success in high-demand industries and post-secondary education by offering hands-on training, industry-aligned certifications, and innovative learning environments.
CTEC is available to students interested in pathways not offered at home school sites.
We’re excited to welcome all our students, staff, and instructors back for another incredible year of hands-on learning and career exploration! Whether you're returning to continue your journey or stepping into our labs and classrooms for the first time, we’re proud to have you as part of our CTE family.

Greetings CTEC Stakeholders,
As we enter the final week of the 2025–2026 school year, we want to take a moment to reflect on a year filled with growth, achievement, partnership, and opportunity. Thank you for your continued support of our students, staff, and programs throughout this school year.
This is the final week of the 2025–2026 school year, and underclassmen now have approximately 3 instructional days remaining. These last few days are important, and we encourage all students to remain focused, complete all academic responsibilities, and finish the year strong.
As we close this chapter:
We wish our teachers a restful and well-deserved summer
We wish our students an engaging, enriching, and safe summer
We wish our parents and families a reflective and refreshing summer season
Thank you for the role each of you has played in making this school year meaningful and successful.

Student Experience
Students enrolled in CTEC remain registered at their home high schools but attend CTEC for half a day every other day. This arrangement allows them to benefit from specialized training while maintaining their connection to their home school.
CTEC is designed to provide comprehensive career and technical education that aligns with regional industry needs, promotes equitable access to career pathways, and enhances both student outcomes and local economic development.

LRA Presents Check to EBR CTEC for Restaurant Takeover
The Greater Baton Rouge Chapter President Brad Watts and VP Megan Klock presented a check for $3,600 to the EBR Career & Technical Education Center - CTEC ProStart Program. These funds were raised as a result of the Restaurant Takeover held at Ruffino's Restaurant - Steaks, Seafood, Italian, a unique dining event where ProStart students designed the menu, prepared the dishes, and gained valuable real-world experience by running the restaurant for lunch.

CTEC Instructors Continue Supporting Glasgow Middle School Career Day
CTEC is proud to once again partner with Glasgow Middle School for its annual Career Day, continuing our commitment to exposing students to meaningful college and career pathways. Last year, CTEC instructors Sharon Reed, Jacqueline Edwards, and Kendrick Nwafor engaged students by sharing valuable insight into careers in healthcare, STEM, and technology.
This year’s Career Day, scheduled for May 14, 2026, continued building excitement around career exploration by connecting middle school students with professionals from a variety of fields, including culinary arts, media arts, HVAC, carpentry, and more. The event also serves as an opportunity to introduce students to the many programs and opportunities available through CTEC.
We are grateful to Glasgow Middle School and Career Day coordinator Ashley Rodrigue for continuing to create impactful experiences that inspire students to begin thinking about their futures at an early age.

Amber Boyd, Executive Director of East Baton Rouge Schools Workforce Development, provides an overview of the EBR Workforce Development program's success and highlights opportunities for students to secure internships and earn money up to 1,500 dollars this summer.
Internships give students access to real-world tools, skills, and experiences.
Last summer, Jakarin Whitfield, a student at Scotlandville Magnet High School, gained hands-on experience through a summer internship at Salas O'Brien as part of CareerBridge. Opportunities like these help students build confidence, explore career pathways, and connect classroom learning to the real world...

The students at Scotlandville Magnet High School crushed our STEM Escape Room! Using critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork, they worked through challenges and unlocked new ideas about STEM disciplines and careers!

Their $10,000 contribution to support our CareerBridge program will help more high school students across the Capital Region gain access to paid internships, hands-on experience, and career opportunities that can shape the trajectory of their future.

Matching for summer high school interns is underway, but there is still time to get involved.
Through these internships, students gain real-world experience while earning a $1,500 stipend and often academic credit, all while supporting your team with meaningful work. Host an intern this summer and help shape the Capital Region’s future workforce.

The future of healthcare is bright in EBR!
Since 2022, EBRPSS students have gained an average of +0.10 grade levels per year, outperforming both the Louisiana state average and comparable districts nationwide.
“This progress reflects a disciplined, districtwide focus on instructional quality and equity,” said Superintendent LaMont Cole.
Through strategic investments in high-quality curriculum, educator development, tutoring, expanded learning opportunities, and data-driven instruction, our students are continuing to move forward.
While there is still work ahead, the momentum is real, and we remain committed to accelerating achievement for every student in every school.
Every headline about economic development sounds exciting until you realize one thing…
None of it works without people. A highly educated and skilled workforce.
Across our region, we’re seeing unprecedented growth in chemical manufacturing, healthcare, industrial maintenance, transportation & logistics, and energy. New projects. New opportunities.

The Workforce Development Department consists of Career and Technical Education, Work-Based Learned Programs (Internship), the Career and Technical Education Center, and JROTC programs across the district.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT (WFD) GOALS:
Goal 1: Ensure that all high schools and the Career Center have fully developed and implemented course progressions aligned with LDOE College and Career Pathways, with a focus on increasing the attainment of Industry-Based Certifications (IBCs).
Goal 2: Increase student participation in Work-Based Learning experiences, such as internships, and grow business partnerships that align with district goals.
Goal 3: Deliver curriculum support and professional development to CTE, Innovative Programs, and JROTC teachers across the district to increase instructional effectiveness, student achievement, align opportunities for Industry-Based Certification (IBC) attainment, and promote college and career readiness.
