Mr. Larry James

Executive Director of Graduation Excellence

Summary

The Office of Graduation Excellence is committed to preparing all students from 6th grade to 12th grade recover credits and successfully complete courses they were unsuccessful in during the 2023-2024 school year. "Credit Recovery" refers to efforts undertaken to allow students to earn high school Carnegie units needed for graduation.  The program also permits students to retake courses  they have previously been unsuccessful in due to excessive absences, inability to grasp the content, or other factors associated with academic failure.  Finally, the program permits students to take a select offering of courses for initial credit.

Funding Source

The East Baton Rouge Parish Summer School Academic Program is funded through the collection of payments from it's program participants.

Course Enrollment

The East Baton Rouge Parish Summer School Academic Program does not make course advisement decisions. Parents MUST speak with your child's school counselor and have them complete a course advisement form. The form can be located, downloaded and printed from this website under the "School Counselors" tab.

Costs

Middle School Costs:  $250.00 per course

High School Costs: $250.00 per half credit, $500.00 for a full year's course credit.

STEP 1: Parent speaks with their child's school counselor to receive a Course Advisement Form.

STEP 2: Parent completes the Consent / Registration Form (See below)

STEP 3: Make payment for no more than 2 of the courses suggested by the student's home school counseling department or school administrator.

Step 1:  Parents, contact your child's school to speak with a school counselor or administrator about courses to take if you have not spoken to the school already.  Ask the school to complete the "Course Advisement Form".  This form can be located on this website under the School Counselor tab on this website.

Parents, you CAN NOT complete the "Course Advisement Form."  This MUST be completed by the School Counselor.  If you complete the form it will NOT be accepted and this will only delay the registration process.

Step 2:  Parents, please complete the Parent Consent / Registration Form.  You should only submit one form per child.  Multiple submissions of this form will only serve to slow down the process.

23-24 EBR Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook

PARENTS PLEASE ONLY SUBMIT ONE REGISTRATION PER CHILD.  PLEASE ENTER ALL REQUESTED INFORMATION.  PLEASE DO NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPS!

Do Not Complete Step 3 without the Above Steps!

How Credit Recovery Works

Parents and Students,

The Summer School Credit Recovery Program provides instruction by utilizing a blended learning model.  Students are provided instruction through a combination of face to face teacher instruction and the Edgenuity Learning Platform.  Teachers provide support to students Mondays to Thursdays between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at Broadmoor High School.  Teachers may offer additional assistance outside of these hours ONLY to unlock assignments, quizzes and exams but not to provide instruction.

Below is a recommended daily course percent completion target guide for students to follow so that they can complete all of their courses by Wednesday,  July 17, 2024.  The number represented daily on the calendar below suggests the percent of the course that the students should have completed each day. We have set the Edgenuity Learning Platform to deliver daily progress reports to the parent email address that was provided at registration.

Parents, you should look at the percent of the course that your student has completed each day and compare it to the numbers represented on the calendar below to gauge whether your student is on pace to complete the program by Wednesday,  July 17, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.
