Welcome Back Parents!
To our returning parents as well as our new ones, I would like to send a heartfelt thank you for entrusting your children with us. We make it our utmost importance for healthy, happy, and safe children while in our care.
This may be a bit long, but it is going to include some important information that you will need to know moving forward with our school year so I ask that you please take the time to read it and refer to it as the year goes on so we are all on the same page.
First off, for all of my new parents, my name is Lisa Varrasso, I am the Pre-K through Grade 6 Student Activities Director. My position covers the Before and Aftercare program, After School Activities, Homework Club, Little Vikings Summer Institute, and other fun things that are in the works. You can reach me by email as well as the phone number listed below this email. I am usually pretty quick with responses, but I ask that you keep in mind that I run several programs at a time and also run between 3 different schools so please be patient if I don’t get back to you immediately, but trust me when I tell you, that I do return every email and every call in a timely manner. We have 3 locations for our Before and Aftercare students. Our preschool friends will be located in Mod 1 in the preschool modular at the Central School. You will need to ring the buzzer to be let in. We ask that you keep a spare set of clothing in your child’s backpack at all times during our program in case of unforeseen accidents. ALL PARENTS MUST SIGN THEIR CHILD IN AND OUT EVERYDAY. You may not drop your child and go. This applies to all centers. You may be asked to show your license if we don’t recognize you for the first few weeks, this is simply to protect your child. We appreciate your patience during this time.
Our Kindergarten through grade 2 friends will be located in the cafeteria of the Central School. Once again, you will need to be buzzed in. You will pull around the back of the school and park in one of the parking spaces either on the side or the back of the building. You are NOT ALLOWED to pull up to the cafeteria door and leave your car for any reason!Mitchell School is for grades 3-8 and is located in the cafeteria. Parents will need to buzz in at the guidance room doors. If your child is coming from the Jr./Sr. High School, please make note that they will be riding bus N to the Mitchell School for drop off.
Due to parent requests, we are now opening all 3 of our locations at 6:45 am. We CANNOT and WILL NOT open the doors prior to this time. Our custodial and before care staff need time to come in at 6:30 am to get the buildings ready. We ask that you not attempt to enter prior as you will be turned away until opening time. Our pickup time is still 6:00pm. We strictly adhere to this time and ask that you do as well. All of our locations have a lead monitor at all times as well as a phone. We ask that if your child is not coming to the aftercare program or if they are going to be late that you let us know PRIOR to the end of the school day. This is of the utmost importance as we have to account for each and every child’s whereabouts at all times. If your child is staying for extra help from a teacher, is going home on the bus, getting picked up from school, etc.…. this is what we need to know. If your child uses an EpiPen or an Inhaler, we ask you leave them with us as we have no nurse on staff after school hours. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter. The phone numbers and contacts are as follows:
Preschool through grade 2: Our lead monitor is Katie Forristall (Miss Katie), the cell # is: 508-574-6034 (for pre-K) and 508-740-0441 (for K-2)Mitchell School: Our lead monitor is Eileen MacNeil (Mrs. MacNeil), the cell # is: 508-740-1202PAYMENTS: You will be receiving an invoice by email on the 15th of every month for the following month. For example, you will be receiving an invoice on September 15 for the month of October. All payments will be due on the 1st of each month. Late charges will be applied if not paid on time. Please take advantage of our online payment services, it takes less than a minute and is very convenient. If you log onto www.ebps.net, click on Student Activities Pre-k through grade 6 and before and aftercare, then click on before and aftercare, the prompt for our Unipay system will pop right up. If you have confusion with this, please reach out to me and I will be more than happy to help you. You can also pay by check or money order and leave it in the drop box at all of our locations. Our staff can show you where they are. I ask that you DO NOT leave cash. All checks and money orders are to be made out to the Town of East Bridgewater.
ACTIVITIES: We love to do fun activities with your children in both the before and aftercare programs. I have an amazingly talented staff that brings excitement each and every day. There are days we go outside and as the weather starts to change, please dress your children appropriately. We would hate for them to miss something fun outside due to inappropriate dress. This is simply for their protection to keep them safe and healthy during season changes. Prior to any activities starting for the day, we ask your children to work on their homework if they have it. Please understand that we can offer minimal help if they need it, but we cannot offer one to one homework help as we have too many children in the program that need our attention. If you think they may need it, our homework club is a great option. More information will be coming home to our Mitchell School families once a date is set by our principal, Mr. Gentile.
Lastly, please know that I am here for any reason that you feel the need to reach out. Please take advantage of this. Whether it’s something positive or a concern you have, I want to know. I can’t improve our program without all of your support and I welcome any feedback. I also ask that you take a moment and go onto the website (where the payment center is) and download our parent handbook. Your question may be answered in here for your convenience.
As we all get back into our busy schedules I am wishing you all a happy and healthy start to the new school year. I ask that you remember that we are not an “As needed” service so please do not send your child to the program if they are not scheduled for that day. You will be called to pick them up immediately and charged for the day. Thank you for your helping to keep my staff to student ratio safe by following this policy.
Once again, wishing all of my families a wonderful 2019-2020 school year.
Lisa VarrassoPreK-6 Student Activities Director
