 A MESSAGE FROM MRS WINTER

Dear Families,

This week has been our Learn Through Week and the focus has been on charities.  Children throughout school have been learning about different charities and how they help people.  As part of this work we have been running a community reading cafe where children have come into the hall with their grown-ups and enjoyed refreshments while sharing stories together.  We feel this has been so successful we would like to continue this moving forward so watch this space!

Next half term we are going to have a big focus on improving attendance and supporting the children to be in school every day and on time, we welcome your support with this.

As a Trust we have come together to update our Ebor Academy Trust Diversity and Inclusion Statement and it is as follows:

We are one organisation working as one school, many sites and supporting each other to achieve our very best. We are dedicated to fostering an ethos where diversity and inclusion shape every aspect of the educational and professional journey for the adults and children within the Ebor team.

As a family of schools, we recognise our responsibilities in educating our pupils, our staff and the communities we serve in celebrating differences and promoting equity, to ensure that every member of our Trust is valued for who they are. We aim to ensure that people feel a sense of belonging through overcoming challenges and celebrating successes together.

We have certainly had a very busy half term in school where so much learning has taken place, we have welcomed new families and grown together further as a school community, it has been wonderful to see the children achieving so much together.  Thank you to all of our parents and carers who continue to support us. We hope you all have a lovely half term and that the children enjoy a very much needed rest. We look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday 6th November at 8:45am.

Best wishes

Mrs. Winter

COOK SCHOOL

What's Cooking?

Team Swale and Nidd have been visiting Cook School this week.  The children have been decorating biscuits to make them look like mummies!  Some of them were rather scary looking whilst others were rather cute.  Well done to all of you, your artistic skills were superb!  Let's hope they tasted as good as they looked.  Every child in Swale and Nidd have brought the recipe home if you want to have a go making them yourselves.  Ours were vegan as we used Vitalite but you can use normal spread/butter if you would like.  Have a very happy halloween and remember children - not too many sweets!

COMMUNI-TEA

This week we have held two Communi-tea events to help raise money for the charities Communi-tea and Selby hands of hope.

Over the course of the two events we have managed to raise a fantastic £161.50!

We would like to kindly thank all the children and parents that made this possible.

FOSHA

FOSHA AGM

FOSHA would like to invite you to their Annual General Meeting taking place on 16 November at 3.20pm at school. Everyone is welcome!

We need to hold an AGM every year to update everyone on what we've been doing and to elect a new committee to make sure we can run fundraising events and manage requests from school for funds.

We need a new Chair and a Treasurer as a minimum, as the current ones will not be standing.

Unfortunately, if we don't have anyone stand for these positions, FOSHA will not continue.

We'd also love to have a representative from each class to attend the occasional meeting, help out every now and then and to spread the word about what we're doing. You don't need any special skills, just turn up and have a coffee with some other grown ups!

Please get in touch with any of the committee if you want to have a chat about it before the AGM.

YORKSHIRE ATTRACTION DISCOUNT VOUCHERS

Yorkshire attractions have kindly sent the school some discount vouchers that we would like to share with you. These can be used from now until Christmas.

Hopefully these will come in handy and help save some money over the half term.

SLEEPSAFE

This week, Team Staynor have been learning about different charities. In LKS2 we are focussing on homelessness and really want to make a difference for this issue by supporting a local charity, Sleepsafe.

Sleepsafe provide temporary accommodation in Selby for anyone facing a night on the street. They provide free access to 6 bedrooms, a living area, a kitchen and toilet facilities. They make use of donations of food, clothing and toiletries and have volunteers who help day to day, supporting important life skills for residents. After 8 weeks, the residents will move to more permanent accommodation.

Over this week, children have been campaigning for donations of warm clothing, tinned food and toiletries, for both adults and children, to be made to school by Friday 10th November.

We would be incredibly grateful for any donations you may be able to provide, including good quality second hand clothing, and we ask that there be a maximum of 5 items per family. We will have a representative from Sleepsafe coming to collect the donations.

Look out for our Twitter campaign!

Thank you for your continued support!

POPPY APPEAL

To help support The Royal British Legion we will be selling Poppies and other merchandise within the main reception area, before and after school from Monday 6th November.

All money raised will go directly to the charity which provides support to the Armed Forces community in the below six key areas: Financial support, Advice, Employment, Mobility, Mental health and Housing.

We kindly thank you for any donation you can give.
