 A MESSAGE FROM MRS WINTER

Dear Families,

This half term we are launching our ATTENDANCE initiative.

Every class team will have the letters of the word 'attendance' laminated. Each time that the whole team is present the team will add a letter from the word attendance to their wall display. After ten sessions (and the word has been completed) the class team will be rewarded with a non school uniform day. This is something that every team can achieve.  We are going to challenge the children to see if every team can have at least one non school uniform day by the end of this term!

Thank you, as always, for your continued support when it comes to positive attendance at school. We know this half term can be tricky with sickness bugs and colds and sometimes sickness absence cannot be helped.  If you are unsure if your child should be in school please contact us so that we can offer support.

Next week (week commencing 13/11/23) is Anti-Bullying Week. The focus of this year's anti-bullying week is 'Make a noise about bullying'. In school we will be kick starting anti-bullying week with Odd Socks Day which is on Monday 13th November. On this day we are encouraging the children to come into school in odd socks to help us to celebrate what makes us all unique! Throughout the rest of the week, the children will be spending time in their PSHE lessons focusing on anti-bullying where their class teachers will work with them to discuss what bullying is and what we can do about it. If you would like to find out more about this year's anti-bullying week please see the Anti-Bullying Alliance's website by clicking here

Thank you to all of our parents and carers who attended parents evening this week.  If you were unable to attend please contact the school office to arrange a meeting with your child's class teacher.  During parents evening we shared attednace data, if you did not receive this we will send it home next week so that you have an up-to-date copy of your child's current attendance.  We also asked parents to complete our parent questionnaire during these meetings, we have added the link to this below, if you were unable to complete it please can we ask that you do this using the link.  Your feedback is very important to us, we know we can always be better and so it's important to hear from you as parents and carers as to how this may need to look.

Have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes

Mrs. Winter

COOK SCHOOL

What's Cooking?

Team Derwent have been visiting Cook School this week.  The children are doing some very worthwhile work with Sleep Safe Selby at the moment and have been busy cooking Leek and Potato Soup to donate to Sleep Safe so their homeless people can have a lovely, nutritious meal.  The children have learnt how to safely peel and cut potatoes and how to safely use a pan on an induction hob.  They have done an amazing job - their enthusiasm to support our chosen charity is humbling.  Mrs Soper is so proud of you all!

Next week, Team Dove will be joining me in Cook School to cook some more soup.

FOSHA

FOSHA AGM

FOSHA would like to invite you to their Annual General Meeting taking place on 16 November at 3.20pm at school. Everyone is welcome!

We need to hold an AGM every year to update everyone on what we've been doing and to elect a new committee to make sure we can run fundraising events and manage requests from school for funds.

We need a new Chair and a Treasurer as a minimum, as the current ones will not be standing.

Unfortunately, if we don't have anyone stand for these positions, FOSHA will not continue.

We'd also love to have a representative from each class to attend the occasional meeting, help out every now and then and to spread the word about what we're doing. You don't need any special skills, just turn up and have a coffee with some other grown ups!

Please get in touch with any of the committee if you want to have a chat about it before the AGM.

CHILDREN IN NEED

Friday 17th November

Next Friday is Children in Need, the theme is 'be spotacular'.

We invite children to come in non-uniform with a spotty theme. A donation of £1 per child would help make a huge difference to help a child in need.

A bucket will be circulating on the playground at drop of time on Friday morning, with all donations going straight to the charity.

Selby Times will also be coming through the day to take some pictures for the local newspaper.
