Elves

Physiology

Lithe and beautiful with light skin, pointed ears, hairless bodies and faces, they are difficult to miss by human standards. Their height varies by realm, usually between 1m70 to 1m90m with the women slightly shorter.

They can live as long as they chose to, but rarely go beyond 800 years, averaging 400 years. With such a long lifespan, they are considered children until they are 20. Although physically mature at 16, they are not considered so until they are 100 and ready to start integrating society and making decision that will impact it.

Death

They die when they decide to. Usually, it's out of sense of completeness. They have done everything they want to do and explored everything worth exploring. Outsiders often view it as boredom, and it is true that the oldest elves are the most curious ones, the ones who always find something new that interests them.

Before they decide to die, they look forever young, but once the decision is taken, they slowly start to look older and older. People crossing their path will wish them a happy journey and offer them small gifts to commemorate their relationship.

Final Moment

At their final hour, only the very closest of their relations are present, as well as a cleric. Once they had their last chat with all those present and their weakest moment is at hand, the cleric will magically snuff out the last of their life force helping them transition without pain and with speed.

Psychology

Calm, quiet and introverted, it is often difficult for non-elves to know what any elf is thinking at any point in time. They rarely show great emotion and tend to let things come to their natural conclusion, merely observing them.

Because of that, they are seen as cold, careless and suspicious. It is true that they only race of mortal they consider superior to them is dragons, but this veiled arrogance, is not born of malice.

Values

Wisdom. An elf thinks that rational thoughts can solve anything. They put heavy emphasis on discussions, logic, and applied emotional intelligence.

Tolerance. With time, elves have seen all kinds of conflicts solve themselves out, so they are very tolerant of what's different. However, they are not dupes. They are always very careful in their dealings with other races.

Peace. To a few exceptions, elves have never been the aggressors. The very few wars they have participated in were the Demon Wars or those where they needed to defend themselves.

Society

Each elven realm is governed by a queen or a king which is a hereditary position with absolute power. They have absolute power and are always obeyed mainly because they take very few decisions.

Self-Governed

Elven society governs itself, usually through common sense. If a disagreement arises, all parties just talk it out, which can take a lot of time.

In the worst case scenario, an unsolved disagreement can be presented to a group of elders to help see it through.

Elders

Elven elders often come together, to talk things through and are always available to help younger elves.

These groups and sessions are not formal, but important decision might be taken. If important enough, it will be taken to their sovereign for the final seal.

Very few elves are considered elders before they are 800 years old, unless they are very wise. The youngest ones are usually around 700, with a very remarkable one being 600.

Lawless

Elves have no laws per se. They do keep records of most decisions they make, they do not see those are marking an obligation.

Most elves respect each other and decisions made by elders, because those come out from long discussions and usually are very fair.

Elves know how to behave by what they are taught, but mainly by what they see.

Names

The elven language is a very soft one. Elvish names will not contain hard-sounding syllables, which contains letters like C, G, K, P, Q, R, X, Z. Very frequent syllable contains letters like L, M and N. Least frequent letters are D and T.
