CLASS OVERVIEW
We are studying some exciting things in 5th grade!
Our four units engage students in reading and writing while focusing on a specific aspect/genre of literature. We are working to improve grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension skills as well as engage students in variety of writing experiences as we explore:
5th Grade:
UNIT 1 Literacy Basics
UNIT 2 Nonfiction/Informational Texts- Ecosystems
UNIT 3 Fiction- Adventure Texts- Adventure & Survival
UNIT 4 Fiction & Nonfiction- Argument- Civil War Era

About Me
Hello! My name is Carmen Schimmer. I am the 5th grade ELA & Writing teacher. I am thrilled to be in my 4th year teaching at East Sac County. GO RAIDERS!! I am Mom to three amazing children (now adults) & a wonderful son-in-law! And I am Nana to the two CUTEST kiddos!
When I am not teaching or spending time with my family, I enjoy reading, watching football and basketball (preferably college!), spontaneous road trips, and spending time with friends.
