Macungie Elementary School
Alburtis Elementary School
Hi! I'm the art teacher at both Alburtis and Macungie Elementary Schools. My hope is to bring art to life with engaging lessons that spark creativity, imagination, and a love of art in all of my students.
Education: I am a proud graduate of Kutztown University, where I obtained my bachelors degree and art education certification for K-12. I graduated with my masters degree from Wilkes University, and I have also completed 36 post-masters credits from LaVerne University, and an ESL certification n from LCCC.
Teaching Career: I started my teaching career at Holy Family School in Nazareth, PA teaching art for PreK-8th grade. I started teaching in East Penn in 2014, working at a number of our district's schools: Wescosville, Alburtis, Macungie, and Emmaus High School. I have been in my current position at Macungie and Alburtis since 2016. I love to share my passion and joy in art making, and I aim to nourish my student's love of creating.
About me: When not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my own family. I have three young daughters who fill my heart with joy and my house with laughter. I love creating my own art work at home, especially with colored pencil, watercolor, and sharpies. I also love to read, watch movies, and go to the pool/beach/anywhere near water. I love animals, especially cats, and I have two kitties named Lilo and Stitch.
In art class, Kindergarteners and first graders learn to use art tools and work on building their fine motor skills. Students begin learning about and exploring the elements of art focusing on lines, shapes, colors, and textures. Students learn about pattern, repetition, variety and unity in art. They learn about illustrators such as Eric Carle, and they are inspired by children's literature to create art. Students are also inspired by the world around them, famous artists such as Matisse, and their own imagination.
2nd and 3rd grade artists build upon skills and techniques using art tools and media. They further develop their fine motor abilities. They explore more of our elements of art and principals of design. They learn about artists such as Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Vincent Van Gogh and Henri Rousseau. They are inspired by both realistic and abstract art, the world around them, and their own imagination.
4th and 5th grade artists continue to develop new skills and techniques using art tools and media. They continue to develop and refine their fine motor abilities. They explore the elements of art and principals of design. They learn about artists such as Keith Haring, Leonardo Da Vinci, Georgia O'Keeffe. They are inspired by both realistic and abstract art, the world around them, and their own imagination.
Art supplies are provided for our students in K-5th grade. They will explore a variety of art supplies ranging from 2-D to 3-D media such as crayons, oil pastels, watercolor, tempera, and clay. Art IS messy, so we ask that students dress for a mess!
