Social Studies

Welcome to Social Studies with Miss Torpey!

In this course we examine historical developments in medieval and early modern history. The period of time we study stretches from the "fall" of Rome through the European Renaissance (476 AD- 1500 ish). We will explore the geography, culture, economic activities and contributions of various societies located throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa. We will explore these topics through classroom activities, projects, and your interpretation of a variety of primary and secondary sources.

Helpful Resources:

  • Supplies: This is kind of changing for me as our school environment is changing as well. I am going to try to minimize the volume of "papers" I handout. Here is what you will need:

    • A folder for social studies stuff (in case I do give you a hard copy of something

    • A spiral notebook or a binder with looseleaf paper (Nothing fancy, the choice is yours, I just want a place for you to write, draw, and share your thoughts or creations when we take breaks from our screens. I would probably recommend a spiral notebook over a binder because they take up less space and we won't use our lockers as much this year).

  • I will post long term assignments, announcements for tests and quizzes, and homework on the Pod 4 homework board.

  • We will be using Schoology this year. I will be making use of Schoology, but we will not use it every single day as we did during distance learning.
