Mr. Hanlon's Page

Welcome to Team Excalibur! I am glad your child is on our team. Please refer to the Team webpage to find links to Excalibur's Teacher's pages and our assignment calendar.

Welcome to 7th grade science. There will be learning, and fun in our science class this year! We will continue to work with the Full Option Science System (FOSS) curriculum. To begin the school year, we will spend time covering Chemistry. Afterwards, we move into Cells and Heredity. Finally, we end the academic year with Earth's Geologic History and Adaptations of life.

Each student will keep a detailed notebook of all class lessons. Our notebook will be from the Instructional Science Notebook (ISN) model. This will be covered and set up once school begins. Marble bound or spiral notebooks work best. Depending on student use, students may need 2-3 of these notebooks for science. Probably, the most needed supply would be glue sticks for classroom use. Each worksheet will be attached in the notebook and a glue stick works best.

The class is set up as an inquiry based classroom, meaning a hands-on, cooperative learning approach is modeled. Students, in groups, work to solve problems in the class period. There may be times when the lesson needs to be extended another day. There may be times when student responsibility is expected to complete questions on a worksheet. Students will work with an understanding of lab safety while performing the laboratory activities.

Throughout the curriculum, checkpoints will occur where assessments are required. Our quizzes are called Investigation checks (I-checks) and students are allowed to use their notebook to complete. There is a roughly one week notice for every I-check and large scale assignment. Shorter assignments will have shorter notices for due dates.

Should you need to contact me, email works best (Phanlon@eastpennsd.org) and I will try to reply within the same school day. You may also phone at (610) 395-8593 EXT. 503. Again, I will try and return you call within the same school day.
