My artistic journey began in my family's kitchen, where creativity was a daily activity. As my mother made dinner, my siblings and I would gather around the table, exploring making little crafts with stamps, markers, cards, beads, and stickers. I remember time spent hiding under my mother's quilting frame, watching each stitch being placed carefull
While my passion for art took root in these early experiences, I recognize that fewer students today have similar opportunities for creative expression at home. Through my Crafts classes, I aim to bridge this gap by providing students with skills and techniques that extend past their graduation date.
Each creative discipline offers life lessons. Woodworking can cultivate perseverance while weaving develops intricate attention to detail. By embedding the Studio Habits of Mind into each lesson, the students develop a toolset for creative problem-solving and self-expression. My ultimate goal is to empower them to discover a creative outlet that provides solace and joy in an increasingly demanding world.
The most rewarding aspect of my teaching is witnessing students overcome their initial hesitations in artmaking and transform their apprehension into confident, beautiful artistic achievements. Their growth and creative discoveries continue to inspire my own creative path.
Each art student needs a sketchbook. A 5.5x8.5 multimedia sketchbook is recommended for most classes.
You can always email me with questions, but the best way to see what we're doing in class is to check PowerSchool for assignments and due dates or Schoology for more detailed descriptions.
Check out our Family Tech Resources Website! The purpose of this site is to provide both students and families of the East Penn School District resources on the technology they are using in the classroom. Some of the resources are created by East Penn, while others may be created by the companies themselves.Â
