Welcome to Mr. Laub's Science Class! Please look over the policies for my class below.
Expectations
Students are expected to bring the following items to class everyday:
Something to write with
Your Chromebook
Students are expected to actively participate in the learning process by:
Asking and answering questions (including the Warm up)
Taking a good set of notes (more than just filling in the blanks)
Completing in class assignments
Working productively with other members of the class when appropriate
Seeking additional help from me when needed
Making arrangements with me to complete work that was missed while absent. You are expected to take this responsibility when you return; do not wait for me to remind you.
Extra Credit
Extra credit assignments will not be offered at any time.
Cooperative Learning
Students will be working in groups of 3 or 4 for most in-class assignments.
When working together, group members may divide the work using the following roles:
Leader – Keeps group on task and does the job of any absent group members.
Manager – Gathers and returns all necessary materials and paperwork for the group.
Recorder – Writes down the group’s agreed upon answers for group assignments.
Secretary – Verifies all group answers by looking in notes and other resources.
Groups will stay in place for roughly a marking period.
In most cases, students will be able to choose their own group members.
The purpose of this system is to promote healthy teamwork and to illustrate the importance of taking responsibility for one’s actions.
Students will be expected to complete labs and in-class activities as part of a group, but may choose to turn in the graded portion of the assignment as an individual, in pairs, or in trios if they so choose.
Students may only collaborate on answers and work if both of their names are on the paper and they are turning it in to be graded as a group. If they are choosing to turn in the work individually, then they may not discuss or share answers with any other students.
Other Resources
Assignments and resources will be posted in Schoology for each class period
If students or parents have questions, concerns, or need extra help, my preferred method of contact is email.
