I believe parents and teacher must be partners. You know your child best! Your input is a key component in helping me help your child reach his/her full potential in 1st grade. I encourage you to contact me throughout the school year. Please email me at ktomasello@eastpennsd.org.
Kirsten Tomasello is a dedicated first grade teacher at Shoemaker Elementary School. She graduated from Gettysburg College with a BA in Business and worked in the business world for many years. After staying home a few years with her twins, she returned to school at Muhlenberg College to pursue an Elementary Teaching Certification. Ms. Tomasello started her teaching career as a long term Substitute in Kindergaten at EPSD's former Kindergarten Center. From there she was a long term substitute at Lincoln Elementary in EPSD in 5th grade. Then she moved to her current home, Shoemaker Elementary. Ms. Tomasello was a 5th grade teacher for 4 years and then moved to her true love, 1st grade. She was privileged to loop from 1st to 2nd grade one year with her entire class giving her a unique experience to see how students develop and grow over two school years. This changed her perspective on how her first graders need to grow and what they are capable of.
Teaching is a second career for Ms. Tomasello, but she feels it is her true calling. She has a love of learning and has completed her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Literacy through Wilkes University and continues learning by taking graduate school classes of interest.
When she's not teaching, Ms. Tomasello loves spending time with her family. Her daughter, Adrianna, lives and works on Capital Hill in DC and her son, Alex, lives outside of Philadelphia and works for Deloitte in Center City. Although her twins are young adults and on their own, they enjoy spending time together at the beach and mountains with her parents and sister and her family. In her free time, Ms. Tomasello enjoys reading all kinds of books especially historical fiction, spending time with good friends and family, hiking, and going to the beach.
You know your child best. Please help me to get to know your child from your perspective. Complete the parent survey at the beginning of the school year.
Please email me from an email account that you check regularly so I can add you to my parent/guardian email distribution list. I send out weekly emails to keep you in the loop as to what we are up to in room 15 and let you know what we have upcoming. Additonally, a great way to 'see' what we are doing in room 15 is to connect to your child's Seesaw account. This will roll over from Kindergarten. If your child is new to our District, I will send home a QR code for you to scan.
Check out your child's journal regularily to see assignments and LOTS of photos of some of the activities and fun we are having in our classroom. Additionally, there is a messaging feature in Seesaw that you can utilize to communicate with me.
