School Health Advisory Council
What is the School Health Advisory Council?
A SHAC is a school board appointed advisory group of individuals who represent different segments of the community. By law, a majority of the members must be persons who are parents of students enrolled in the district and who are not employed by the district. The AISD SHAC is made up of parents, community members, students, and school staff working together to improve the health of all students and families through coordinated school health programs. Texas law requires all school districts to have a SHAC.
Benefits of Having a SHAC
Addressing the health needs of students through the work of the SHAC, helps meet district performance goals and alleviates financial constraints.
SHACs play an important role in communicating the connection between health and learning to school administrators, parents and community stakeholders.
SHACs can help parents and community stakeholders reinforce the health knowledge and skills children need to be healthy for a lifetime.

Public Viewing of Health Adoption
Eastland ISD is currently reviewing a new textbook for Middle School Health. This adoption will include supplemental chapters on human sexuality and reproduction. Per House Bill 1525, the textbook will be available for public review on Thursday, May 5, in the Siebert Elementary computer lab starting at 6:00.
The next SHAC meeting will take place Monday, March 21 at 4:30 in the Siebert Elementary cafeteria. The primary purpose of this meeting will be to discuss the adoption of a new Health and Physical Education curriculum.
