Hackathon

Do you have an idea for a Hackathon? If so, please make a copy of this doc in this folder and fill in the details as best as possible. When it’s done, please submit your ideas via this form.

The hackathon activities will take place over the course of the Summit as follows:

  • Idea Pitches (30 minutes on Monday) - Leaders of proposed project theme will get an opportunity to deliver a brief pitch to gather interested participants.
  • Hack Time (1.5 hours on Tuesday & 2.5 hours on Wednesday) - Time for working / hacking on the ideas.
  • Hackathon Presentation Talks (45 min. on Thursday) - At the conclusion of the summit, groups will have the opportunity to present their work in a lightning-talk format.

  • You may find it useful to formulate hackathon ideas as "I'm interested in X {answering question, solving problem} , using Y {Google’s Geo Tools} and Z {datasets or other tools}." *See examples below
  • Please look through the existing docs to see if there's already a proposed session you might like to join instead of proposing a similar idea.
  • Note that the best topics for this hackathon will be such that a small group can make some progress in 4 hours. (But you can, of course continue to work after the event)

*Hackathon Idea examples

  • I’m interested in visualizing land use data with Google My Maps.
  • I would like to develop a common workflow (how to document) for everyone to duplicate the process to digitize field survey using ODK and improve the data visualization using Fusion Tables.

If you are interested in prototyping with Google Earth Engine, Hackathon proposals of Google Earth Engine User Summit 2018 might be helpful.
