Design Technology.

Year 2 made Winding Mechanisms where their spiders can climb up and down when they turn the handle.

At Earlsmead Primary School we aim to teach children techniques and skills to make their own products. We aim to stimulate a love of creativity with all the benefits to wellbeing that can bring.

Children are taught the skills needed to create their own products which they can then keep and take home. There is a strong emphasis on teaching the basic skills required. Children experience sewing, creating structures, moving mechanisms, cooking, electrical control and pneumatics with projects progressing in complexity as the children move through the school. Examples of products in everyday life are examined and evaluated. There is a focus on healthy eating, origins of food and seasonality when cooking.

Children at Earlsmead are excited by creating their own products and acquire the ability to design and make their own both at school and at home using the skills they have learnt.

Year 5 made Moving Mechanisms in DT to link with their Science topic Earth and Space.

They used Cams to make their rockets and planets turn round.
