Course Overview

Welcome to Biotechnology- I am so excited to share this course with you! Biotechnology is part of two career clusters: Health Science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). 

This course is an introduction to biotechnology including career exploration, history, and applications of DNA/RNA technology, molecular biology, bioethics, cell culturing, engineering, and laboratory safe practices. This course is supplemented with laboratory exercises, and demonstrations that illustrate the basic techniques of biotechnology. The course concludes with a consideration of bioethical issues relating to this powerful new technology.

Class Calendar

Required Class Materials

Students should have a way to organize notes that will be available both electronically and in print. Students need to bring their school issue charged iPad to class each day. A composition notebook is needed as a lab notebook. Notice will be given when the lab notebook is needed in class, but students will have a spot to also store their lab notebooks in the classroom. 


Google Classroom

Westlake High School utilizes the Google Classroom platform to share classroom resources, many assignments, and assessment preparation materials to students. WHS students will receive a classroom code to access these materials, submit assignments, and track any missing work.
