Music is a universal language that everyone in the world can use to connect with each other. By expressing ourselves through song, dance, playing various instruments, or composing new melodies, we not only find a way to connect with others, but also with ourselves. Music brings us closer together and helps us to become true global citizens. Our VVE music room is a safe space for all of our students to try new things, be creative and express themselves in an authentic and dynamic way. Students will learn to find their voice, work on building their self-confidence, and grow to gain a true appreciation of music as we embark on our musical journey together!

About Me

I was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Go Blue! I graduated from Earlham College with a Fine Arts degree with a focus on vocal performance.  Music, art and dance have been a huge part of my life since I was a young child. I was a ballet dancer for over ten years, and have been playing the piano since I was five years old. I have performed in numerous musicals both as a child and as an adult, and was in a band for a number of years both as a singer/instrumentalist and songwriter. Music is a part of my life each and every day!

I am now entering my 22nd year in education and my fifth year here at Valley View Elementary. I have taught music in Boston, MA, Redding, CA and here in Austin. I have also taught music to children in Kenya over the course of two summers through a local Austin non-profit, Recorders Without Borders. That experience was one of the most amazing teaching experiences of my life. Teaching music has taught me that no matter where you go, you can always connect with people through music. It is something that resonates with everyone in some way, and it is my joy to help to build bridges between people, cultures and communities through music. Teaching children about music and helping them to discover the music inside of them is one of the greatest feelings in the world and I am so grateful to work with your children each and every day!
