Hello there! This is my 14th year at Eanes Elementary and 9th year in my current position as a Special Education Teacher for modified curriculum, English Language Arts, Math and/or Dyslexia Intervention. I have a Masters Degree in Special Education from Texas A& M University with a certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis. I am a Dyslexia Practitioner with a Wilson Reading System Level 1 Certification and Reading by Design. For the past 26 years, I have worked in a variety of service-delivery models for children with special educational needs; ages 0-3, 3-5, and K-5. I currently hold teaching certificates in Special Education, EC-6 Generalist, English as a Second Language and Gifted & Talented; Level 1 Wilson Reading System certification and Reading By Design certification.
I was born in Kerala, India. I grew up in many parts of Southern India. I moved to Denver, CO in 2001 and lived in beautiful Denver until our move to Texas in 2008. Texas has been our home state since then. Our son will be a Senior at Rouse High School, Leander, TX! He is a former EE Mustang, and HCMS Cougar and decided to move closer home to build life long relationships with peers as a Rouse Raider.
My childhood experiences with my father and mother significantly influenced my love for learning and teaching. The stories my father retold and narratives of my family's life experiences help me build relationships with my students and families. I strive to be a teacher who fosters curiosity, reasoning and interests about how things live, work and grow around us. I empower student self-advocacy and involvement in decisions involving their individualized education, and celebrate every step our students make towards reaching their educational goals!
These are a few if my favorite things...Tasting world cuisine and recreating unique dishes in our kitchen; enjoying unique Austin eateries; collecting hand crafted artifacts and jewelry from around the world that tell us a story; watching international movies and food documentaries. I find joy and serenity in the greenery, and natural landscapes around me. I try to give back to the community by working with youth and young families through our church outreach at the WILCO Juvenile Detention Center, and Three Strands Training Program for restorative training for parents of children in Child Welfare System.
Looking forward to another year and get to know you and your children as we learn, share, and grow together!
