About Me:

My name is Cheryl Rutley-Kreis and this will be my 9th year working in a classroom with kids and my 4th year teaching 2nd grade at Eanes Elementary! My students love to call me "Ms. RK". 

 My first 5 years I worked at Riverbend Christian Preschool when my youngest kids (twins: Waylon and Bridget) started attending preschool there. I was in the 3’s classroom for two years and really treasure that age! After that, I moved into the permanent substitute position for the school. I loved this because I got to know all the kids and all the families so well. It also really gave me an opportunity to learn about so many different teaching styles of my fellow coworkers including so many different techniques for classroom management.

I worked at Riverbend until I took over for a 2nd grade teacher at Bridgepoint Elementary in March of 2020; yep took over and we went remote! 

Prior to all this I graduated with a BA. My husband and I had our first baby while living in San Diego.  We made the big move to Austin when she turned one! We had no family in San Diego so it was very nice to have some family here (my brother is here, but my parents live on Cape Cod and my husband’s family lives in the Pacific Northwest). Our family has grown to 4 kids; Cammy (18) will now be a freshman at the University of Georgia, Gigi (15) will be a 10th grader at Westlake, and our twins, Waylon and Bridget (10) will be 5th graders at Bridgepoint Elementary. 

As a parent, I found my life goals completely different than what they were as a college kid. I know how much I want to work with kids and make a difference in the lives of children. I understand how truly precious a child is and  want for every kid to know they are special and that they have a special place in this world. I obtained my teaching credentials and am certified for Early Childhood Education and also to teach English as a second language. 

In addition to being a teacher and a mom, I enjoy reading, traveling, exercising, cooking, but mostly watching my girls dance their hearts out on stage, and watching my son play his sports. I look forward to working with you and instilling a lifetime of learning in your precious child.
