DAWN SKONIECZNY

My name is Ms. Skonieczny, and I’m so excited to be your teacher this year! This will be my 22nd year teaching at Bridge Point Elementary and my 35th year teaching overall—wow, time flies when you’re having fun!

We’re going to have a wonderful year full of learning, exploring, and growing together. I graduated from college in Connecticut, where I also played basketball and ran track. I enjoyed learning so much that I went back to school to earn my Master’s Degree. I’ve always loved staying active and still enjoy sports and movement every day.

My family is very important to me. My brothers and their families live right here in Austin, and they even graduated from Westlake High School! I’m also a proud aunt to triplet nephews—they just turned 23! They graduated from the University of Arkansas, the University of Georgia, and LSU this past spring.

About a year ago, I said goodbye to my sweet furry friend, Roxie, who crossed the rainbow bridge at the age of 15. She was truly special and spent more than 10 years in kindergarten at BPE with me. The kids loved her, and she brought so much joy to our classroom community. I miss her deeply, but I’ve been using this time to continue learning and growing.

This summer brought both happy memories and some difficult moments. My loving father passed away at the wonderful age of 90. We were fortunate to celebrate his 90th birthday together with our family in Naples, Florida, in May. Although saying goodbye has been difficult, I am grateful for the many memories we shared and the incredible legacy he left behind.

My dad was also an educator. He spent his career as a school social worker, supporting children, families, and communities through his work in public education. He believed deeply in helping others, and I am so proud to follow in his footsteps by dedicating my life to helping children learn, grow, and feel valued.

I truly love teaching Kindergarten, and I can’t wait to start this exciting journey with you and your child. It’s going to be an amazing year filled with curiosity, kindness, laughter, and wonderful memories!
