Dawn Blizzard, LMFTA, is an Associate licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of Connecticut. She received her master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from Central Connecticut State University. She also received her master's in Women and Gender Studies from Southern Connecticut State University. Dawn is passionate about educating and empowering adolescents and adults. She offers a structural, holistic, solution-focused, feminist approach while working with individuals and families. Dawn has experience in a variety of capacities within the mental health field. She has experience in outpatient psychiatric services, private practice, and intensive in-home services. She believes that being a therapist is her life calling; she feels honored to work with her clients and to gain their trust through their most significant challenges.
Dawn has a clinical background working with school-aged children, adolescents, adults, and families. In addition, she is passionate about working with clients with anxiety disorders, shame, self-esteem challenges, PTSD, Grief and Grieving, and mood disorders. Therapeutic modalities that Dawn has experience in include CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), MI (Motivational Interviewing), and Emotionally Focused Therapy. Dawn enjoys creating and using the family genogram to enhance her clients’ experience, and to gain a better understanding of intergenerational patterns and traumas.
Dawn has an extensive background in women and gender-based issues-advocacy, empowerment, and education. Safer Sex with teens, Transgender- transitioning and lifestyle, LGBTQ+ matters, AIDS education, and single-parenting choices and challenges. She is a single, adoptive mom of an adult son and understands the many struggles and challenges in this role. She incorporates into her therapeutic style a lifetime of personal experience to connect with her clients in a compassionate and judgment-free environment.
In her free time, Dawn enjoys road trips, trying new restaurants and cultural events, and hanging out with her friends, and her cat, Milkshake.
