Booster Doses
For people aged 5 years and up, the brand of omicron (bivalent) COVID-19 vaccine offered is based on availability and series status. Both Moderna and Pfizer effectively protect you from COVID-19. CDC recommends getting the first dose available to you, regardless of brand. There is no preference for one brand over another.
People ages 5 years and up are eligible for the Bivalent (Omicron) Booster vaccine at least 2 months after primary series completion or last booster dose, and at least 3 months after COVID infection
Pfizer Bivalent Vaccine is authorized for individuals 6 months.
Moderna Bivalent Vaccine is authorized for individuals 6 months and up.
Bivalent booster doses for children 6months to 5years follow different guidelines than Adults. They are not interchangable!
Children ages 6 months through 5 years who previously completed a Moderna primary series are eligible to receive a Moderna bivalent booster 2 months after their final primary series dose.
Children ages 6 months through 4 years who are currently completing a Pfizer primary series will receive a Pfizer bivalent vaccine as their third primary dose.
Children 6 months through 4 years of age who have already completed their three-dose primary series with the original (monovalent) Pfizer are not eligible for a booster dose of an updated bivalent vaccine at this time.
