Grading Policy

Grading Policy

In the fall of 2016, the Eagle Academy for Young Men adopted a new grading policy that will be applied to all courses in the school. The following categories define how types of assignments will be graded, and how it will impact overall marking period grades.

Formative Assessments

Formative assessments will count for 60% of a marking period grade. Formative assessments include classwork assignments, homework assignments, in-class work, exit slips, Do Now tasks, etc. Note: in science and computer science courses where there is a lab component, formative assessments will count for 40% of a marking period grade, and labs will count for the remaining 20% of a marking period grade.

Summative Assessments

Summative assessments will count for 40% of a marking period grade. Summative assessments include unit tests, projects, etc. These are generally considered "formal" assessments that assess a scholar's understanding of a material in a test-setting.

The Eagle Academy for Young Men operates on a semester basis, with three marking periods per semester. Only the semester grade (listed as marking period 4) will appear on a transcript.
