Here are a few of the activities that Depew Middle School’s Innovation Station engaged in this year:
success!
Book studies about persistence and rotating roles in group discussion, started by enjoying a “Book Tasting” to pick a good book by getting a “taste” of each.
A field trip to Escape Rooms, for problem solving, collaboration, and more!
We also worked on other topics such as what are the qualities of a good employee, how to:
make better visual presentations
give better presentations in person
improve at public speaking
write a thank you note
be more successful
goal setting, time management, practicing restorative justice, and more
We worked on the engineering design process in depth, preparing for our own individual capstone projects.
We practiced by going through a process to design a better backpack
explored our interests with heartbreak maps,
learned to work with sharing technologies such as Padlet
researched what other young people are doing through their passion projects.
Once in distance learning, we completed a group capstone project, using the design process to identify challenges facing students in our own school, and implementing a plan to help students with some of those challenges for the rest of the school year.
