Harkness - Kenton - Potter
Students will learn the skills to be a supportive caregiver through clinical experiences in a variety of health care environments including long term care facilities and hospitals. Topics of study include: anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, infection control, legal and ethical responsibilities, vital signs and conversions, professional communication, personal health and wellness, and physical, mental, emotional, and social developments. During clinical rotations, students perform personal care procedures, learn to take vital signs, and assist patients with mobility using crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.

Get hands-on experience in a variety of health care environments including long term care facilities, hospitals, and an internship during your senior year.
Develop personal and professional growth in an engaging environment.
Tour acute care facilities, hospitals, UB's Gross Anatomy Lab, colleges, and the Gates Vascular Institute Brain Museum.

Uniforms are required during on-site clinical experiences.
Current physical required in fall of Junior year and must maintain updates physical for the entire two years.
Additional steps are necessary to become a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Certifications in BLS, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, Stop the Bleed, Narcan Administration, and a CNA opportunity at the end of Senior year.
Physically demanding (lifting and moving patients)
Students are required to work in close proximity to others.
Students are required to work independently and collaboratively in groups.
Students interact in the lab setting with various levels of supervision by the instructor.
