Students will learn the technical and communication skills required to be successful in a professional shop environment. Topics of study include: implements, tools and equipment, anatomy and physiology, properties and disorders of the skin and scalp, and New York State Board procedures. Students will perform professional barbering techniques, such as mustache and beard design, a variety or shear and clipper cutting techniques, hair color and lightening, as well as the basics of business, effective client communication, shop management, and safe work practices. Students must accumulate 500 hours of instruction in order to be eligible for the NYS Certification exam.
Prepare for the NYS Master Barber's licensing exam.
Cut, color, and style a variety of haircuts.
Learn to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
Master Barbers participate in national organizations and trade shows and many compete in barbering competitions.

Students are required to purchase a Barber Kit and uniform.
Additional steps are necessary for NYS licensing.
