Tech Hub: Choose Your Own Adventure! Self-Paced PD Modules
Throughout #DVUSDTech Fest 22
Grades K-12 | Choose professional development modules and complete them in DVUSD's Tech Hub for Staff, on Canvas. Watch the videos, complete the quizzes, and submit the "Your Turn" application task. Choose from modules on Canvas, Clever, Google, Chromebooks, iPads, Websites, Zoom, & more. Upon completion & review of the "Your Turn" assignments, you will receive a digital badge in Tech Hub and 1-hour of PD documented in Frontline, per module.

Canvas PD Modules:
This is the place to begin your journey with Canvas. Take a tour, starting with how to access Canvas, navigate to courses from the dashboard, access inbox messages, and customize notifications. Then dive into working on your first course by importing existing content, creating your own content, and organizing your course with weekly modules.
Canvas 102 | Course Design & Cross-Listing
Customize the setup of your courses and prepare for positive student experience. The quality course design allows for a clear understanding of how to access the content. Elements of course design covered in this session include customizing the course navigation menu, previewing your course using student view, scheduling the availability of content & modules, applying module completion settings, setting a course home page, linking text/images to course content, and adding a course image to display on students' Canvas dashboard. Learn about the methods used to add people to courses, including combining multiple sections of the same content into one course shell with cross-listing.
Canvas 103 | Wrapping Up the School Year
Take a look at end-of-year considerations such as posting grades and checking course end dates. Learn how to setup Master / Sandbox courses to prepare for next school year.
Canvas 201 | Communication & Feedback
Maintaining open lines of communication and providing feedback provides students with the necessary support to succeed in class. Check out the tools available to post announcements and facilitate discussions. Providing feedback on student work is another important piece of student communication. The built-in SpeedGrader system helps teachers review student work, evaluate submissions with rubrics, and provide targeted comments. Streamline your grading practices with posting scores in PowerTeacher Pro from the Canvas grade book and sending Canvas inbox messages to students who satisfy certain criteria. As the courses progress you can also use analytics to monitor student grade trends and activity in the course.
Add videos to your courses to share updates, participate in discussions, and add personalization to your courses. Use the Pro version of Screencast-O-Matic inside Canvas with Studio for recording webcam and/or screen capture videos, uploading existing video files, and posting YouTube videos. With Studio you can even view data on viewing by students and build in quizzes throughout the video. Students can use Canvas Studio to record webcam videos too! Prepare for live video meetings by creating Zoom links right inside Canvas!
Create quizzes to check student understanding and monitor learning. Choose from classic or new quizzes, both providing a wide selection of item types. Check out the options for creating question banks to reuse questions on multiple quizzes.
Canvas 302 | Collaboration & External Tools
Expand your Canvas toolbox by collaborating with colleagues and using external tools. Share & access resources created by others using direct share of content, master courses, and Canvas Commons. Within your courses add external tools for custom assignments. Share a G Suite file as a template for students to use with Google Cloud Assignments. Provide a PDF to students for annotating online using Kami. Check out these integrations and more!
In this module, you will learn the basics of using Clever. You will gain knowledge of how Clever works, how to access it, what resources are available, what teacher tools it provides, and how to continue learning more about Clever itself. You will also begin your very own Clever Teacher Page in this module.
In this module, you will learn about using Clever with students. You will gain knowledge of the student Clever experience, helping students access Clever, launching apps for students, and how to help students when it comes to troubleshooting issues.
In this introduction 101 to Google Docs & Drive, we will explore the view options of My Drive/Shared Drives, quick access, and the list/grid view. We will learn how to organize items in Google Drive by managing folders, uploading documents, renaming documents, and moving documents. We will also learn how to create documents, insert and format text, share documents, and make a copy of documents.
If you are looking to expand your knowledge of Google Docs & Drive, then this 102 course is for you. In this session, we will explore how to collaborate with documents by adding comments, assigning tasks, reviewing comments, suggesting edits, and accessing revision history and reverting to earlier versions. Additionally, we will learn how to insert links and bookmarks as well as adding visual elements such as inserting images, drawings, and tables.
In this introduction to Google Forms & Sheets 101, we will explore how to create a form, set a response destination, and sending forms. We will also learn how to organize data collected in a Google Sheet, sort, filter, and format data, analyze data with charts and graphs, and publish results from a Google Sheet.
In this introduction to Google Slides 101, we will explore how to start a new slide, select and import a theme, and choose slide layouts. We will also learn how to add visual elements, add and adjust images & videos, inserting shapes, lines, etc., and using the PearDeck Add-On.
Student Devices - Chromebooks 101
Students in grades 1-8 and Barry Goldwater HS are issued 1:1 student Chromebooks to support their learning, provide access to resources, and allow for digital creation. Classroom teachers are the first point of contact supporting students with technology as they navigate learning. This session will share about the student experience including device login, connecting to WiFi Internet, using the shelf & app launcher, customizing browser settings, using bookmarks, and developing an awareness of accessibility options.
Student Devices - Chromebooks 102
Students in grades 1-8 and Barry Goldwater HS are issued 1:1 student Chromebooks with many great features that make Chromebooks useful for digital learning. On the Chromebooks students use the G Suite for documents, presentations, more. Learn about student access to these resources and how to expand the capabilities with add-ons. Look beyond the G Suite, to see how students can add extensions to their Chrome browser, use select apps installed on Chromebooks, and access their student Gmail for sending and receiving messages.
When students receive their iPad they will go through device setup to connect it with their DVUSD profile and then can customize features. Students and teachers can personalize the iPads using custom settings and accessibility features. Apps for students are provided in the DVUSD App Catalog. See how AirPlay, Screencast, and Apple Classroom can be used to share content.
Learn to organize content in both iPad's Files & through iCloud. Using the apps for Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets students and view, contribute to, and create documents, presentations, and more. Learn about tools for productivity and creativity including Photos, Markup of pictures, the Notes app, scanning paper resources to make them digital, and Notability.
Update your school/teacher website. This training will begin with a basic tour and provide a demonstration on adding and sorting pages. Within pages, select from the layout options and add content using a variety of apps. Share files and create internet links on your website.
Websites 102 | Enhanced Content
Explore the variety of apps to add enhanced content to your website. Follow along with how to add clipart and images, create photo slideshows, put files into a document viewer, upload videos, and share files from your Google Drive.
Prepare for live virtual meetings using Zoom. Through this session, you will learn methods for accessing Zoom, tips for participating in meetings, and multiple options for how to create Zoom meetings (including right in Canvas)! Prepare to lead meetings using host controls, breakout rooms, screen sharing, and meeting controls. Following this session, you will be able to join meetings with confidence and create your own.
Deliver distance learning experiences that are truly effective and impactful. This session will help identify and take action on preparing for the first days of school, ongoing relationship building with students, and transferring teacher clarity practices to distance learning.
