GROWTH MINDSET AND THE POWER OF YET

Over 30 years ago, Carol Dweck and her colleagues became interested in students' attitudes about failure. They noticed that some students rebounded while other students seemed devastated by even the smallest setbacks. After studying the behavior of thousands of children, Dr. Dweck coined the terms fixed mindset and growth mindset to describe the underlying beliefs people have about learning and intelligence. When students believe they can get smarter, they understand that effort makes them stronger. Therefore they put in extra time and effort, and that leads to higher achievement. Assignments and Tests

  • All homework and assignments are due on the assigned due date. Failure to turn in an assignment will result in the student receiving a zero. Students and parents should be aware that zeroes are extremely detrimental to a student's grade.
  • Late work can be turned in for half credit. All late work must be turned in by the end of the six-week grading period in which it was assigned. I want every student to pass with a C or better and ultimately, it is up to each student to do so.
  • In the event of an absence, it is the student's responsibility to obtain all missing work from mswolfe.com, the teacher, or a classmate.
  • All assignments must have the appropriate heading and title in the top, right hand corner of the student's paper. In the case of a project, students should put their heading on the backside of the project. A standard heading includes the student's full first and last name, the name of the class (English 7, AVID 7, AVID 8, or Creative Writing/Get Lit), the date, and the period. The name of the assignment must be written in the middle of the paper, across the top line.

Attendance

Frequent absences and/or tardiness can cause students to lose valuable instructional minutes. Please be here on time every day and always be ready to learn. Frequent tardiness will result in a referral to the Dean of Students. Please make every effort to be present each day.
