Class Overview

Welcome to American History! I am excited to have the opportunity to work with you over the course of the semester. In American History, we will study the time period of exploration all the way to the present. We will examine all aspects of society including politics, economics, culture, and foreign affairs to understand the history of the United States. Equally as important, we will learn to read critically, write clearly, and think broadly. Acquiring and improving each of these skills is necessary to become a productive citizen, and we will tackle these tasks in ways that are challenging but also exciting!

ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Heather Jones and I am currently teaching American History at James Kenan High School. I am a 2004 graduate of JKHS and I earned my bachelors degree in Criminal Justice from Campbell University.

My hobbies include running, cooking, reading, and spending as much time as possible with my family. I am married to Coach Jones (JK basketball coach) and together we have 2 awesome little boys, Beckett (6yo) and Everett (17mo).

I am new to teaching but I am excited for the opportunity to share my love for and knowledge of history with my students. As an educator, I feel that students deserve my very best each day that I am in the classroom and I expect the very best from each of my students. It is my belief that students learn best when they are supported and encouraged. I am a demanding, but fair, teacher and promise to challenge the minds of my students daily. I will push them to think critically and broaden their thoughts and opinions. My goal is that each student completes my course with a well-rounded understanding of the United States and a drive to learn more.
