Last year dunstan volleyball was in a rebuilding phase. With Fita Lafita and Whaea Day continuing to develop our skills. Volleyball 2021 started off with great velocity, the season commencing with weekly games against surrounding schools to get us back into the swing of things. These games allowed us to introduce some of the new players to the match environment and work on our skills, which were a little rusty due to the summer break. Some of these games were more successful than others but overall we had our fair share of wins. These games helped us prepare to send 2 senior girls Volleyball teams away to Christchurch for the tournament.
The Christchurch tournament was a huge eye-opener for the Dunstan teams. This is because we had no idea what to expect as we had only ever played against local teams. The two teams were put into completely different venues for the tournament where the blue team had a nice calm venue with only 2 courts playing at a time compared to the gold teams venue which was a lot more chaotic with 6 games being played at 1 time. Both teams played their hearts out on the court and came out with some pretty good results considering we were playing teams from all over the South Island.
Dunstan volleyball is continuing to go from strength to strength,
Practice games are starting to pop up. With volleyball as a whole getting back into the swing of motion, our heads are high with the hopes of a junior tournament in dunedin. Thanks to parents, coaches, and managers who have dedicated their time to volleyball.
Thanks to parents who sacrificed their week to come along and give us a helping hand and support our girls who went to the tournament we really appreciate.
Thanks to Whaea Day who organized the tournament for us and has managed the team for the past few years. We are really grateful for all your amazing work.
And one final thanks to Fita Lafita. Fita has been coaching Dunstan volleyball for 2 years now and has given up a lot of his own time to coach us. We appreciate your energy, kindness and devotion to developing the team into what it is today.
