The 2021 netball season was an unfortunate season due to the disruption of COVID which cancelled the south island secondary schools tournament. It was a slow start to the season as we were slowly building the connection between combinations and getting used to a new young team. After the first round in the Wanaka league, we knew what we had to work on going right back to the basics and everything started clicking. Suddenly a lot of hurdles and bumps hit, resulting in injuries, and unfortunately, we had slowly started losing the connection that we had worked so hard for. Luckily we had a strong senior B team that helped fill in.
We had a tough few rivalries in the local competitions against Alex A and Molyneux, which is always a battle. We won our first game against Molyneux in the first round and a close loss to Alex A, but disruptions due to injuries we, unfortunately, lost the semi-final against Molyneux in the second round. Lia Chapman, Mekah O’Neill and Annie Hansen were named in the Central Otago U18 Representative Netball team. Marzelle De Beer, Molly Gallelty, Lucy Mclellan and Jessie Moffit were named to the U16 Central Otago Rep team. This showcased the selection of strong players within the Dunstan A team, And what an awesome achievement throughout the team.
On behalf of the Dunstan A netball team, we would like to thank our amazing coach Stacey Elliot for the countless hours put into this team. You have given us a lot of knowledge and developed our skills which we will always hold as players. We would also like to say a big thanks to Amy Barron for the background organising of the Wanaka League, Saturday Alex games, Otago Secondary Schools Tournament, Barbara Bell Tournament and all the fundraising.
