We had a great season this year which unfortunately came to an abrupt end due to our boys and girls tournament in Christchurch being canceled.
We started off the season with a lot of confidence coming out of last season undefeated, with the majority of the team continuing over. We walked through our first couple of games as the team was linking up really well, however that wouldn't last as we came up against the Mt Aspiring College teams who we would have close battles with throughout the season. Soon after we were playing our own 2nd XI who would give us a real wake up call.
With Ryley injuring himself about halfway through the season and rugby taking out Ben and Troy as well as Jake joining us late in the season due to concussion we had to battle on with help from the very capable seconds, who we couldn’t have played without. The team even managed to win the final once again in a hard fought game against Mt Aspiring ending in shootouts. Overall our team won the COVID cup for being undefeated and also the Central Otago Senior Reserve A trophy.
None of this would've been possible without Helen Jarvis who managed our team this year. She put a lot of effort into keeping us organised. With this being Theo’s last year at school Helen will no longer be managing a team here at Dunstan. Helen has been managing the firsts for two years now and her enthusiasm and input to the team and the sport will be sorely missed.
We would also like to thank our Coach Sally Mullally who put in a lot of hard yards behind the scenes. Sally is a very dedicated and knowledgeable coach, she has a great way of communicating and getting us all working together. We have all learnt a lot from her and truly appreciate the big effort she has put in over the season.
