Helpful Definitions

Adaptation: Physical or behavioral change that allows an organism to better survive in the habitat

• Physical adaptation: Part of an organism's body that makes it better suited to survive

• Behavioral adaptation: Action of an organism that makes it better suited to survive

Carnivore: An animal that eats only other animals

Disperse: Plants use wind, water, animals, and propulsion (shooting with pressure) to spread their seeds out to reduce competition

Herbivore: An animal that eats only plant material

Omnivore: An animal that eats plant material and other animals

Photosynthesis: Plants creating their own food (glucose-sugar) using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide

Predator: An animal that hunts and eats another animal

Prey: An animal that is hunted and eaten by another animal
