Why Does Duquesne Education Center

Have a Wellness & Food Service

Advisory Committee?

Our students deserve the best! DCSD believes in promoting & protecting children's health, well-being, and their ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity. Federal legislation also requires districts who participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) to establish wellness policy. This policy ensures the District promotes student wellness, proper nutrition, nutrition education and promotion, and regular physical activity as part of the total learning experience.

The Wellness & Food Service Advisory Committee is made up of staff, board members, students, parents, and community members who review the Wellness Policy tri-annually for revision and helps make suggestions and assessments of current District programs as they relate to this policy. If you would like to participate or would like more information, please contact Crystal Irdi at irdic@dukesk12.org, call 412-466-5300, ext. 2219 or simply attend one of our meetings! All meetings are currently being held virtually and meeting information, such as date / time / Zoom link can be found in the Wellness Calendar below.
