DHS Culinary Academy

The Culinary Academy was the first academy established at DHS and was started about five years ago. We offer a total of five classes in our program with Catering and Advanced Catering being the capstone courses. Our catering class is a student run business that provides actual food service to not only the school district but also many local businesses and organizations. Our clients include The City of Dublin, Police, Historical Society, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, and Lions Club, DPIE and many local businesses. Two years ago we were honored to be selected as a food purveyor for the American Red Cross in times of emergency. The entire class and instructor were on call 24 hours a day in case of an emergency.
We are a non profit and all our proceeds go back into the program to purchase kitchen equipment, supplies, student chef coats, and field trips to culinary colleges, suppliers and industry sites. Each year the academy also awards about $6000 in scholarships to graduating seniors. We are also articulated with three colleges where students earn college credit and high school credit simultaneously while enrolled in the academy. They are also credited for entry level college classes and are able to advance to their program of study without the introductory courses. All of our culinary courses are UC "a-g" accredited classes. Students also earn their industry recognized Food Handlers permit while in the program which is required to work in any commercial food establishment.
Many of our students have graduated and are working chefs at Google, Marriott, Bridges Restaurant and Wente Vineyards, just to name a few. In addition many of our current students fill positions around the Tri-Valley at Wente, Cheesecake Factory, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Yalla, In n Out, Denicas, Panera, etc.
