Friday Music Show Off!
This school year, when a class has music on both a Monday and Friday, we will begin the Friday class with Show Off! This is an opportunity for students to share a special talent they have with their classmates. These talents can be musical such as playing an instrument, singing, and dancing or non musical talents such as gymnastics, basketball dribbling skills, sharing artwork etc. In order to be able to share, students must have a parent/guardian sign off on the following form. This is so I can plan for the lesson that day and to ensure that what is being performed is actually a talent this student has prepared ahead of time and is ready to share.
I am really looking forward to learning about the students of SCE and all of their exciting talents!

September Music News!
Welcome back to another year in the music room. We are off to a great start!
All classes began the year talking about how when we make music we have to work as a team and everyone has to do their part to help the team. We talked about being Better Together and made a bulletin board to help us remember this each week. All classes have also been learning the song A Little Bit of Love by Weezer which is going to be part of our monthly town hall meetings.
Fridays in the music room are for Showing Off! Whenever a class has music on a Friday, students are invited to perform a special talent they mave have for the class. In order to perform, students will need to sign up using the following google form. Show Off Google Form
5th graders are learning a fun drumming ensemble called Boom Boom Share a Drum where they have to work with a partner. You will soon be receiving information about purchasing a recorder for your child as we will use recorders as part of our learning this year.
In 4th grade, we are reviewing our rhythms we learned the previous years and will soon be learning some new more challenging rhythms. We are also going to be playing ukuleles which we started very briefly at the end of 3rd grade, but will be really diving into this year!
3rd graders started the year by composing rhythms to go along with the book All Are Welcome. We also learned a new song called Tideo that includes a fun hand clap game. We will soon be learning about sixteenth note rhythms as well as continue practicing reading our notes on the staff.
In 2nd grade we also composed rhythms to go along with All Are Welcome, we will be reviewing how to read the notes on the staff and learning about how sometimes in music there are silent notes called rests.
It has been so great to get to know the 1st graders! We have had a blast exploring all the things our music room has to offer, talking about what it means to be a musician, and moving to music!
We would also like to welcome Miss. Kait Newcomb to our music room this year! Miss. Newcomb is a student teacher from Ohio State University who is in her final semester and will be working at SCE to earn her final experience before graduating! She is introducing herself below:
Hi there! My name is Kait Newcomb and I am a student teacher from Ohio State who will be working with all SCE students for the first half of this school year in music class. I am super excited to be working with your kids for the semester, I know I will learn so much from them. We’ve already enjoyed singing songs, playing games, and making music together in these first couple of weeks! As the semester progresses, I will be teaching more and more lessons and I hope to help foster every child’s love for music in this time. Looking forward to a wonderful fall!
